Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarship 2026–2027 for International Master’s and PhD Students in Germany

The Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarship supports academically strong, socially and politically engaged international students and PhD candidates who intend to pursue a Master's degree or PhD at a state-recognized university in Germany. The program supports applicants from all academic disciplines and places particular emphasis on democracy, human rights, ecology, sustainability, social justice, gender equality, anti-discrimination and civic engagement.
International students from non-EU countries who have completed their first academic degree abroad may apply for funding for a Master's degree in Germany. International PhD candidates who have completed their graduate degree abroad may apply for doctoral funding in Germany. Priority is given to applicants from DAC countries who have not yet taken up residence in Germany at the time of application.
For the Fall 2026 selection round, applications are accepted from 15 July 2026 through 1 September 2026. Applications are submitted online through the Heinrich Böll Foundation's application portal.

The scholarship is available to applicants with Overseas fee status and provides full tuition fees for one successful student each year for the duration of the student's undergraduate programme. The award is based on academic excellence and is open across a wide range of undergraduate subjects, with Medicine and BA International Honours joint courses with William and Mary excluded.
