Write in your own voice. The Rhodes Trust emphasizes that the personal statement should be an authentic account of who you are, what drives you and what you hope to achieve.

Prepare your academic statement.
Explain your academic and research interests, your proposed direction and why the selected Oxford course is the appropriate next step in your development.

Select suitable referees.
Choose people who know your academic ability, character, leadership, service or professional contribution well enough to provide specific and credible references.

Complete the Rhodes Scholarship application.
Follow the requirements and document rules for your constituency. Some constituencies have additional institutional endorsement or certification requirements.

Submit the application and references before the constituency deadline.
The application deadline and reference deadline may be specified separately. Never rely on a general Rhodes deadline; verify the exact dates for your constituency.

Prepare for the selection stages.
The selection process varies by constituency but generally includes the written application, a social engagement event and a final interview. Both the social engagement and final interview are normally attended in person.

If selected, apply to Oxford.
Selection as a Rhodes Scholar does not automatically constitute admission to Oxford. Successful candidates must subsequently apply to their chosen Oxford programme, with support from the Rhodes Trust. The Scholarship is confirmed after successful admission.
References / Referee Reports — Applicants must provide references according to the requirements of their constituency. Referees should be selected carefully because strong references should provide credible evidence of the applicant's academic ability, character, leadership, service and other qualities relevant to Rhodes selection.
